Color clouds, also known as Swinging from the Clouds, was a great mural with which to bring 2023 to a close. A solitary palm tree sparkles with icy blues to hot reds. Two clouds represented by molten colors of the spectrum flank each side, flowing into hues which blend and drip.
This mural is on the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, FL. So of course I wanted it to be special, art about art. At the same time, the director desired an interactive mural with swings, a concept has been done hundreds of times in hundreds of places. My job was to come up with an original version of this popular subject. First, I decided to feature a palm tree because two actual palms frame this mural. Second, Florida is known for its spectacular sunsets. In fact clouds are referred to as Florida’s mountains. Adding two painterly clouds on either side of the palm tree sealed the deal. Now I had something to hang the swings on. Drips of paint!
